It can be very easy to overload our brains with the sheer amount of information, content, and stimulus we engage in daily.
Layer on the hundreds and hundreds of decisions and the never-ending to-do lists we tackle each day.
It can be very overwhelming for our brains.
This week, let’s strive to take some well-deserved brain breaks instead of defaulting to almost breaking our brains with overconsumption and overuse.
I’ve been working on this consistently for the last 9 months, and I’m seeing the benefits of greater creativity, focus, and ease when I need to really put my brain to work on something.
Here are some simple practices to get you started. Pick a couple that you’ll incorporate into each day with intention (and without screens.)
Stretching: Take five minutes to stretch and move your body. Reach for the sky, reach for your toes, downward dog, neck rolls, or whatever your body needs.
Breathe: Spend a few minutes focusing on your breath. Try deep breathing, box breathing, or alternate nostril breathing to create calm.
Nature: Step outside for a quick walk. Fresh air and a change of scenery can do wonders. Allow your eyes to scan the sky; take in a tree from the trunk to the tallest branches. Watch a bird or squirrel for a couple of minutes.
Hydrate: Get up and grab a glass of water…or two. If available, add fresh mint, cucumber, or citrus.
Mindful: Sit quietly and meditate for a few minutes. Rest your eyes, slow your mind, and be with your beautiful self.
Dance: Put on your favorite song and dance like no one's watching.
Reboot: Take a 10-15 minute nap to rejuvenate your brain and get a second wind for the rest of the day.
Sensory Break: Engage your senses by smelling a fragrant essential oil, tasting a piece of dark chocolate, or feeling the wind or sun on your skin.
Gratitude: Write down three things you're grateful for today.
Heart: Place your hand on your heart and say, “I am more than enough.”
Enjoy this opportunity to take great care of your mind so that it will continue to take great care of you.
With immense appreciation & gratitude. Always.
